For the opening of her 2005 retrospective The Record of Time at the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin, Laurie Anderson re-performed her piece Duets on Ice originally created in 1975 in Genoa Italy. The exhibition was opened by the composer and pianist Kevin Volans who Anderson accompanied on her violin. As she played the instrument, endlessly looping, pre-recorded violin pieces boomed out through a speaker inside of it. Anderson wore ice skates embedded in blocks of ice which dictated the duration of the performance since the music pieces had no beginning or end. As with the original Duets on Ice the concert ended once the ice had melted.
